这里的they显然是指一般的人，即汉语中的“大家”，在普通文法里这样说是一点问题都没有的。但SAT不能接受，必须把they改成people。SAT认为，代词所指代的对象必须是在句子中出现过的名词，不能让读者去猜想这个代词应该指代谁，哪怕这种猜想非常简单。
